Not the fastest run either

I found the above photo online. The video below I shot myself. The pass before this one clocked over 190 mph. As telemetry revealed he continued to accelerate well past the radar trap and didn’t hit the brakes for turn 2 until he only had 100' left to slow down enough for the hairpin. Translation: he was hitting well over 200 mph. It just that in a normal car you need to slow down to not die.

If you listen closely you can hear him up shift long after he’s past the radar gun.

That, friends, is insane. Of course being close enough to where I could easily have touched his side mirror with my hand (should I wish to be rid of it) is pretty bonkers too.

Where is the radar trap at Laguna? Does it go all the way to the braking zone or does it stop at the crest of the hill?

It’s aimed past the start/finish at the hill. If you’ve got enough downforce to not do a triple lux backflip over the crest (like a can-am car did at 186mph three weeks ago during IMSA) you’ve got a lot of room to continue to accelerate — and it’s downhill.

They’re moving the start/finish and the whole walkway farther back and raising it as the current bridge doesn’t offer a lot of clearance for some of the large work vehicles and it’ll generally improve the layout a bit for the return of Indy cars next year.

So it sounds like you probably loose the radar when you loose the visual over the hill. That 919 is probably closer to 210 when they finally get on the brakes. That’s just mind boggling.
